Our History

With a history stretching back to 1977, Step By Step, Inc. today provides services to over 2,000 clients in multiple Pennsylvania counties. They include: the Northeast (Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wayne, Luzerne, Wyoming, Carbon, Monroe and Pike counties), the Lehigh Valley (Northampton and Lehigh counties), the Southeast (Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties), the Western (Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Washington counties),  and Central (Juniata, Huntington, Mifflin).

Throughout its history, Step By Step, Inc. has maintained a progressive view of the potential of individuals with disabilities. A pioneer in the development of community group homes in the late 1970s, Step by Step, Inc. has provided safe, supervised, home-like settings for countless individuals. The homes are designed for each individual to experience and learn skills necessary for living independently within a community setting.

Over forty years into its mission, Step By Step, Inc., continues to provide a broad spectrum of services administered by a multi-disciplined staff of professionals with a singular focus on improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. Services are provided to individuals without regard to race, color, religious creed, disability, ancestry, national origin (including limited English proficiency), age, sex, actual or perceived sexual orientation, actual or perceived gender identity, or actual or perceived gender expression.
