Intermediate Care Facilities/Intellectually Disabled (ICF/ID) offer the 24/7 support individuals need while encouraging independence, resourcefulness and community involvement wherever possible.
Residents live in homes that house up to eight individuals each. The primary goal of the ICF/ID program is to maximize individuals’ potential in a supportive and shared environment while continually addressing their unique, sometimes complex needs. Many of Step By Step’s ICF/ID residences offer around-the-clock access to staff nurses.
ICF/ID staff members assist individuals in the following areas:
- Home care and life skills
- Participation in community events
- Communication skills and habits
- Grocery shopping, menu planning and cooking
- Individual diet and nutrition
- Socialization and recreation
- Access to (and encouragement to take part in) community services and events
- Interaction with housemates
- Transportation to appointments, events and friend/family visits
Who can receive these services?
Adults ages 18+ with a primary diagnosis of intellectual disability or developmental disability are eligible for ICF/ID services.
What about complex special needs?
Step By Step’s Intermediate Care Facilities welcome qualified adults with complex special needs. The type and level of support available varies within each home. Those with medically involved needs have nursing support in addition to access to professional resources including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and psychological support.
